I'm a desktop user too. I've tried FunToo and Void. Void came very close to working for me, but there were a few things that it just couldn't do--at least not easily enough for me--that I need to do my job. I'd love to try PC-BSD, but there's no support for my WiFi card. I'll probably give OpenIndiana a go here before long.
