The most reliable place I've found in the past was in the top-level directory on an ordinary FAT-partitioned USB stick. The installer writes a log to VC4, which should record where it looks. If the lines in question have already scrolled off the screen, the log can be displayed (rather tediously) with the command # more /var/log/syslog in a shell you can open on VC2 or VC3.
