Great, so hopefully you are now prepared to accept that all the things about Synaptic not working under Wayland were a huge blind alley. We still don't know what was going wrong before, and it sounds like it will not be easy to reproduce it which is a shame as there might have been a real bug that needed reporting. In case anyone stumbles over this again, what was your problematic environment? XFCE4 desktop environment on Wayland? And the problem being that launching Synaptic asked for your password but then the dialog went away without appearing to actually launch Synaptic?
