ZRAM may be fast, but if you need, say +2G in comparison to physical RAM size, the chance of success is fair in the case of RAM size of 16G. If a board has just 2G of RAM then you need to be really lucky to get extra 2G by compression.

Perhaps Gene's setup is no optimal, but swap on SSD, despite its disadvantages, may be an alternative to using a more performant board for building of applications.
