It is annoying that Debian ships very old software.
For instance:
* rplay, with the latest changes in 1999 and potential
security issues:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1118224
* paps 0.6.8, while 2 new major versions have been available
(the current version is 0.8.0). So, in Debian, paps still
does not honor locales:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=759331
(a bug I had reported 11 years ago, with a patch, and
which was fixed upstream 10 years ago).
