Well, thank you everyone for all your suggestions. It got me fiddling hard, but I didn't manage to track the origin of the problem. The problem has now disappeared after the last reboot. Not sure which part of Debian testing's upgrades fixed (or hid) it, but I'll take the win, === Stefan
