Yes, on an Acer, this would typically be ESC+Fn, but that has no effect on my Acer Aspire 5. And I've been into the PDF of the user manual on my particular model and according to that manual I need to enter the BIOS and the "hotkeys" section to modify the behaviour of "Fn" (the manual doesn't say anyting about possible toggling of this behaviour either). Note that the hardware-operating functionality of the function buttons work. Ie. F7 toggles the touchpad off and on, F9 toggles the speaker on and off and F10 dials down sound and F11 dials up the sound. It is the "function button" functionality I have lost and would like to get back: Pressing Fn+F8 to actually get "F8".
