Agreed. I would also use xclip for this. If you specifically want
the content to be in the Clipboard (not the Primary selection), then
use
xclip -i -selection clipboard < yourfile
The default selection is Primary. Primary is what gets pasted when
you middle-click with the mouse, and Clipboard is what gets pasted
when you do Shift-Insert or Ctrl-V in a web browser.
