>> If there is a delivery failure after acceptance of a message, the
receiver-SMTP MUST formulate and mail a notification message. This
notification MUST be sent using a null ("<>") reverse path in the envelope;
see Section 3.6 of RFC-821. The recipient of this notification SHOULD be
the address from the envelope return path (or the Return-Path: line). <<

May be that's what's confusing you.

This is not to mean, that the evelope FROM and the RETURN PATH can and
should every be different. Instead, you will only have ONE or the OTHER -
depending on the TIMING.

Example:
- Imails SMTP process receives mail. If the SMTP service detects a problem,
it is aware of the envelope FROM and will send a notice there.
- Once IMail SMTP accepted the mail, it should insert the RETURN PATH
header.
- Later in the process, Imail might need to bounce the message because
during the delivery process, it finds that the mailbox is full. For THAT
case, the envelope FROM should have been saved as the RETURN PATH header.

So it's NOT that you are supposed to be able to have two DIFFERENT "bounce"
addresses - there are just two different FORMATs of the SAME address.

Of course, Imail doesn't use the RETURN PATH - it relies on its Q* files to
store the envelope FROM.
