problem is anyway here that he is using a .com domain in his AD and that shall
not be used if he hasn't registered it and have in house or are setting up
forwarders for this

That's not true unless you try to email a person using their AD contact info, and even then you can tell the AD object to have an email address that is legit. If the domain he used was even registered to someone else it has nothing to do with IMail email... unless he was maybe using NT accounts as the accounts database.... maybe.. and in that scenario I am not sure what would happen.
