Thus, no e-mails sent using SMTP Auth were being recorded in the JM logs.
This was definitely occurring (by design, albeit unintentionally) with v1.76.
See also message posted to list on 9/21 with subject "Strange log and header behavior". There were many other strange logging issues I was seeing over the past few days, but did not properly document to be able to report here; however, it appears so far that these issues have been resolved with interim release v1.76i2.
v1.76i2 definitely includes the change to the logging so that you should always see a log file entry with the PREWHITELIST ON and WHITELIST AUTH combination.
