We saw a similar issue, but on Christmas Eve starting around 5.30pm EDT and lasting til about 9.30pm. I too thought it was related to DNS, but the main DNS server our IMAIL looks to was functioning fine. I'm still at a loss for the cause; there was nothing unusual in our logs....
