Yes, there is an overlap between an external URIBL test and
Message Sniffer in that Sniffer cross references hits against at least one SURBL
list to gauge the worthiness of a rule.
However, what is often confused is the untrue assertion
that Message Sniffer imports SURBL to construct rules. Let me say again:
it doesn't.
I am not saying that Matt or Scott said this, I'm just
laying down some groundwork.
Now, Message Sniffer catches far more messages than any
URIBL does, and I have no idea which lists Goran or anyone else might
use.
There will be some intersection between the two; and it is
messages that fall into that intersection that I would suggest amplifying with
more weight so as to be able to tend Declude to catching spam rather than
passing it as ham.
I agree with both Matt and Scott that false positives are
thereby exacerbated, however, I think the risk is very small. I would
suggest that to make a happy medium, that one implements their weighting system
to get spam to HOLD status, but not to DELETE status.
I would also encourage anyone wanting to do this to refer
to Scott's posting a week or so ago that was a fine example of how to create a
useful "combo" test.
