Just to be sure that EVERYBODY understands, I'm NOT mad at Helen B.,
or anyone else for that matter. I was and still am frustrated in some ways
by the unavailability of information on Firebird suitable to new users who
do not have prior experience with the same type of database. My momentary
lapse in protocol, which I freely admit to, was due to Helen's post indeed
however. If someone is going to take the time and make the effort to reply
to a question in the first place, they should at the very least have read
the post they are replying to in full, and if they don't understand
something the original poster said, they should ask. Making assumptions,
especially those tainted with an air of superiority, sarcasm, or any of the
generally known and impolite "attitudes" meant to make the original poster
feel belittled are disagreeable to all and should never be tolerated by
anyone! And when such replies are made by someone who is widely known on
the list as well as everywhere else the subject comes up...someone for whom
respect and honor is given by those this person does take the time to
respond to...the detrimental effects of such a reply are doubly bad!
I was asking honest questions, admitting my ignorance on the topic,
and had explained myself well enough for even my 8 year old niece to fully
understand, and making such a reply as the responder did while being
ignorant of the content of my post(s) is a waste of MY time as well as
everyone else's who might otherwise benefit from simple answers made
directly to the point. The Delphi-Talk List is there for all members to
exercise their opinions, thought, and other such verbose matters.
I say these things NOT as a moderator but as a fellow programmer and
human being who expects as anyone would, to receive respect in such matters
no less than equal to the respect given! As far as this particular matter
goes, I think we should all do just as Helen has done and NOT give reason
for any further continuation as it serves no one and is not the purpose of
this List. Nuff Said!

Robert,

I appreciate that you take the time to moderate this forum and that you have
experienced frustrations with the process of getting answers to your many
questions.

I have been reluctant to respond to this thread, but I think you owe Helen
Borrie an apology. You are angry that she did not read all your post(s),
but who has that much time? You could be much more succinct.

I've purchased Helen Borrie's book. I suppose she is making a fast buck,
but only in astronomical terms. This book could only be created as a labor
of love. She deserves getting paid and she deserves getting kudos from the
Delphi and Firebird community and beyond for a well-constructed book that I
am sure took years to compile. I don't even use Firebird and I've learned
much from it.

I guess I'll leave it at that as I must get back to selling my Chinchilla
farm franchises.

Regards,

Ron Huppert
