Hi you,
The database you choose woll be hidden from the end - user, between the Db and 
him lies
- your program - Only this will interact with the database. Pruning aroound 
with SQL will not be
the end-user's meat.
But there might be other kriteria quite meaningful:

- the price 
-client only, client/server or both
-the integration into Delphi (components)
-database Language
-ease of installation and mainanance

There are quite a few Dbs out there, but I prefer Firebird (Borland's Interbase 
clone).
- free
- all three
- native Delphi components
- SQL
-installation of a client-only is just to copy some files. Server has an 
installation-pgm, takes 2 mins.

AND IT RUNS ABSOLUTELY STABLE!
