Rob I take your point - I suppose I only need look at some of the services running on my pc . . . . When I mentioned in passing to the other developer what I was contemplating trying to do, I guess that instead of 'too complex' he really should have said 'not possible to run it as a service' (in reality the application is a very, very simple one!), since in my ignorance I was contemplating trying to run an app that contained a unit with some visual components.
