If someone has already mentioned this and I missed it, I apologize. I assure you that 3d games are able to be written in Delphi. These can be done both in OpenGL or DirectX. The key is to find a 'wrapper' for the windows API calls. There are a couple available as open source.
There is one from project JEDI called WDX. There is another one from someone called Clootie. You can find it by doing a google search for Clootie. I experimented with these in the past. Learning how to use Direct X is a big task. Do not expect to jump in one day and be productive the next. I worked on this casually (well not really) on weekends and nights for several weeks until it started to make sense. One pitfall that I had problems with involved defining my 3d objects 'backwards' so that they were drawn inside out. This caused them to be invisible as the 'inside' was not visible from the point of view. Another involved setting my viewpoint. I do not remember the specifics, but I seem to remember that when I figured out a solution, it seemed to involve a negative number in a parameter when I thought it should have been a positive or vice versa. There are some things with DirectX that are non-intuitive --- at least to my intuition. After studying them, however, things started to make sense. I ended up relying on some internet tutorials written for C++ and/or VB to 'get my feet wet'. I hope this helps.
