It's true, I've had to visit the Microsoft NET group a number of times and you ask a question there and you are usually ignored for two days and then one of the reps will finally reply. But the developers themselves...never! Unfortunately the Firebird groups seem much the same. I was unable to get hooked up because the docs are a terrible conglomeration of facts that depend upon you already knowing the dB. I can easily understand this as it's all volunteer work, however when I asked questions on three different lists, all I got over a period of two weeks was "read the docs" or "Google"! And as you know Goggling depends upon you asking the question the right way and/or knowing what terminology was used in the first place. Finally one developer offered me a link which though it was no help itself, led me to a site where I was able to find the answers I needed. If I had been forced to learn Delphi that way instead of having this community to help me out when I got stuck, I'd have given up long ago! The differences between the various language and tool communities really is quite distinct!
from Robert Meek dba Tangentals Design CCopyright 2006 Proud to be a moderator of "The Delphi Lists" at elists.org (["An unused program is the consequence of a higher logic!", nil]) As written in The Compendium of Accepted Robotic and Surrlogic Theorems Used in the Self Analysis of Elemental Positronic Pathways...1st Edition Revised Well, said, Robert. I sometimes venture onto the Microsoft newsgroups to get help and even when Idon't mention Delphi, it is like you're asking people for their secret formula to Coca-Cola. Now, if you mention Delphi, it's like the episode of the Twighlight Zone where Willaim Shatner finds he's the last man on earth... I dread the day I have to move to .Net because I see it coming at our company and there's no turning back the tide. Our company just invested heavily into the IP of a major ERP package written in, guess what, VB.NET. It is based in the Phillipines and we have a bunch of overseas developers and we're gonna be doing more design work than development here. Fortunately, our Delphi product still has a number of years of life left. E. ____________________________________________________________________________ ________ The fish are biting.
