Orca, ??
I'd be willing to discuss helping you out on a tele-commuting
basis if you like. I've never been given a "standard" rate or even
charged much in comparison to most of the developers around these parts
because it was the only way I could pick any work up! <g> I taught
myself with the help of this list and other net-based resources so most
of the time the ONLY kind pf contract work I've gotten has been from
small one-man shops like yourself. And what I've always done is signed
a NDA so I could look at the specs and/or source code first, to make
sure it's something I know that I can get done for the client the way
they want it done, so I've also had to turn a lot of work away simply
because the job concerned areas I was either unfamiliar with or the
coding methods and styles either of us used were too far out of synch!
Right now I'm using CodeGear's Delphi 2007, with Raize,
Component Ace Suite, Jedi, and a few freeware components. I've had some
good working experience with embedded and small network dB's, mostly
using Nexus, but due to problems I experienced with the company I've
moved on to Absolute.
If interested in discussing it, you can reach me at the e-mail
address below, by mail at a rural pickup spot I still have at my old
address: 707 Rear Maple St., Minersville, Pa., 17954. Or by cell-phone
at (570) 205-6530.

I've been doing it for 11 years now, writing custom software for niche
market without competition. Delphi is the best thing that ever happened
to
me, and i wouldn't trade it for the world. The only thing that scared me
a
while was when Borland announced that it was going to sell of it's
development tools, in the end much ado about nothing but the namechange
to
codegear is my impression.
My order wallet is filled until at least the end of year and then some.
The
only problem i have is that i have only two hands and ten fingers, and
it's
damn difficult as a one-man-band to make the step towards multiple
developpers. I would need to find someone who fits a quite demanding
profile, couldn't pay him enough in comparison to larger companies, i
would
still need to protect my own market, take on the responsability of a
guaranteed order wallet, and so on ...
The only option i'd probably consider is subcontracting, any of you out
there with some time on your hands ?
