Depending on what you are going to do, I'd be careful going the OpenGL way.
There are rumours that MS is dropping OpenGL (see
http://www.theregister.co.uk/991129-000007.html) altogether.
If you are only interested in the Windows platform then you may want to
consider using Direct3D rather. Traditionally OpenGL was more geared towards
CAD type apps and Direct3D more towards games. This may change however...
