There is a really good slider control, including source, in the book
'Developing Custom Delphi 3 Components', by Ray Konopka. He has a Delphi 4
update on his website at http://www.raize.com/DCDC/Edition2.htm
I reckon the book/cd is well worth the $150 or whatever it cost, although the
website has the updated D4 source and components zipped for free.
