Problem is, look who was doing the buying!! Not exactly a cash-rich,
going-up company...

Cash, I'm told, is not a problem - Inprise has (AFAIK), no longterm debt,
and a LOT of cash in the bank.
or something very similar to that. The stock price was even OK (about
14-16$) before the merger announcement. Its going back up, too.... (INPR is
on 5 9/16, CORL on 4 3/16 (In december last year, they were on 40, we were
on 20), and Redhat, the 'darling' of the IPO game, is on 20 1/4. Not that
much, really, when they peaked at 151 in Jan)

Not from what I saw over the last few days. Dude, you speculate like a
slashdotter!
Kylix is in a very strong position to kick a lot of butt. Total colapse is a
long way away, AFAIK. As for a hostile take over - MS have enough of their
own problems (and buying their major tools compedator would not look good at
the moment). I can't think of anyone else who would want to - everyone else
is in the open tools game, and are too busy developing their own stuff (EJB
servers etc) - generally based on Inprise / Visi technology (Oracle sell
JBuilder (1 version back) as JDeveloper(?), and Visibroker is the core 'orb'
for most of the major players: Oracle, CISCO, Silverstream etc.)
Personally, I think everyone (Oracle, IBM et al) is targetting at MS's
space - trying to get a piece of that pie while the Justice Dept has them on
the back foot. Inprise included.
