Does anyone know of published comparisons of Interbase 6 with other
databases?

I have read of a report done by Xperts Inc in August 2000 comparing
Postgress, My SQL, Interbase doing simulated transactions for 100
simultaneous users. In that test Postgres made over 1070 transactions per
sec with 100 users whereas IB made only 197 tps with 100 users.

The results seem to be fundamentally flawed as they used an immature ODBC
driver for IB6. The writeup I saw said the tests were done on NT and Red Hat
Linux 6.1 but no breakdown per OS was presented. A summary of the report is
in http://apachetoday.com/news_story/?? (search on interbase and benchmark)

Speed is one factor, price is another. For a 25 client version of MS SQL
Server 2000 a commercial price is about USD$10,000. (obtained from
http://computershopper.zdnet.com). IB6 is free. For an inhouse product cost
may not be a determining factor. For a product to be distributed at a
reasonable cost to price conscious customers the expensive databases are out
of the question.

In determining which low cost database to use in a Delphi application it
seems to me IB6 wins by virtue of its Delphi support available.

Russell
