> I have never understood the fanatical hatred of garbage collection that some > Delphi developers have Its horses for courses. For predominantly UI based programming, speed is no issue and GC fine. - and for that matter C# very fine. Combinations of large, complex datastructure and cpu intensive calculation (solve a PDE) and GC seems to really slow things done. Maybe its the threading model in combination, I dont know. That said, its a few years since seriously experimented. Faced with multi-platform, 64bit, MPI, all that kind of coding moved to C++ and VS. Coding is a pain compared to Delphi but VS has some very nice features for debugging in this environment. Virgin UI programs get done in either C# or web/js. Component libraries is what delphi programming going. Got a whole lot of stuff that I dont have C++ or C# that's remotely as capable (same argument keeps the Fortran going too). -- Phil Scadden, Senior Scientist GNS Science Ltd 764 Cumberland St, Private Bag 1930, Dunedin, New Zealand Ph +64 3 4799663, fax +64 3 477 5232
