Same situation for me also based in Nelson. Goldie I'd be interested in a catch-up to compare notes on approach, 3rd party components etc. One thing I have done is create VM to develop on and use backup of that so that someone in the future can run that on a PC and all the 3rd party components installed correctly etc. Can be contacted at [email protected] Carl

Would be happy to come to a reciprocal arrangement if possible. I am based in Nelson. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tony Bengree Sent: Tuesday, 14 November 2017 11:29 a.m. To: NZ Borland Developers Group - Delphi List Subject: [DUG] Backup / Support Person Offtopic, but .... Not sure how many other people are around still working with Delphi and in a similar situation to myself ... essentially working alone and with mainly long-term clients. Some (but one in particular) is starting to ask "what happens if you get run over by a bus"? My initial thoughts are to find a backup person or persons, familiar with Delphi (7 through to XE?) and Intraweb who would be happy to put their name(s) forward as contact / support persons. In the Wellington region would be a bonus. All required source code / 3rd-party components etc. would be logged with and available via my accountant. Person(s) may never be needed but are available "just in case" and to give clients some peace of mind. If others have been in similar situations and come up with different solutions then happy to hear those also. If anyone wants to discuss further feel free to contact me: [email protected] _______________________________________________ NZ Borland Developers Group - Delphi mailing list Post: [email protected] Admin: http://delphi.org.nz/mailman/listinfo/delphi Unsubscribe: send an email to [email protected] with Subject: unsubscribe ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2017 17:11:45 +1100 From: Lachlan Gemmell <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [DUG] Backup / Support Person To: [email protected], NZ Borland Developers Group - Delphi List <[email protected]> Message-ID: <CAES_0XiOu9wno3kife=pzup5p2hd32axtexcf8-2zh3mlzv...@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Hello Tony, I'm a long time lurker on this list and I'm hesitant to make this my first post but your "hit by a bus scenario" is actually the reason for being of our company, The Continuity Group. Back in 2013 we saw that many members of the Australian Delphi community were in a very similar situation to what you're describing, working solo with long term clients and in many cases approaching retirement. In response to this The Continuity Group was formed by Steve Arena, Mathias Burbach and myself. Steve you may know as one of the primary Delphi resellers in Australia and Mathias and I are both heavily involved with ADUG having both been president at different times. I'm not sure if this post is in violation of the list rules or not so for now I'll just point people to our website for further information, although I'll happily answer questions here if they're asked and the list moderators don't mind. www.tcontinuity.com.au We're currently working with Australian Delphi developers but I see no reason why we couldn't work with NZ Delphi folks too.
