This is the obvious option. We use lots of Linux server-side though for
development, have had quite a bit of surprising pain porting unix to Lunix.
Maybe just unlucky - lots of Xwidgets. The trend though has been to port
a lot of stuff we used to do on Unix to the desktop. A PC able to run
XP and high-end consumer graphics card is pretty formidable piece of kit
these days. Getting enough grunt plus nice delphi to do good user front-ends.
Linux is going to presuppose a move to a Linux desktop. Much more likely
is a wait-and-see. Maybe CLR will deliver a faster platform and so a move to
.NET would make sense. Maybe MS will re-think Win64 if Mac OS and
Lunix erode their base because .NET doesn't provide the performance. 
Altogether too much uncertainity to be investing in .NET yet.
