Hi Todd

I think this is software generated text messages to parents. If so, we don't use it at the moment.
It's a great idea (if you have a cellphone so it wouldn't help me).

Attendence checking (not counting calling the roll or phoning home but counting data collection, data entry, printing out and posting in pigeonholes) probably takes 5-6 man-hours per day here. I wouldn't say truancy is a big issue but attendance is. Also, schools are pretty twitchy about young
kids not turning up without prior notice, like a phone call.

Hi Wayne

I read in the Herald this week that the govt is trundling out some $4.8m
software tracking school enrollment/attendance. Do you get to use that? Mind
you, do they have truancy at your school?

Todd.

It's huge mate (or is that "I.T.s huge, mate") - several hundred laptops
being trundled around the
school by people who include rugby players. What can you expect?
Using MUSAC software without the protection/assistance of TS. And I writes
plenty myselfs, I does
(stuff like a program that emails staff their timetables if there've been
any changes and indicates
what those changes are; 'nother one for their class lists; 'nother one to
email period 1 lists
because of the absences system; 'nother one on the way for kids'
timetables; a reports program; and
that's not all ...). Just wish I could do web pages and stuff like that. I
did _see_ a web page
once.

Instead of compiling for Linux, our IT dept is trying to get a bunch of
windows programs running on
a linux server using WINE so that we can get free terminal services
without buying the microsoft
product. Some of the software is written in Delphi (by me) and some we
buy
from elsewhere.

Has anyone done this sort of thing?

"Free" terminal services seems to be pretty labour expensive.

This might be off-list. If so, please email me similarly. Thanks.
