SQL Server Management Studio Express is free from the MS download area. It's a lot better than the old one albeit still a bit bloated.
We're running about 25 clients off a SQL Express DB running on a tablet PC and it flies. The only limit is the db size (and missing some features) otherwise the same in all respects. It also does not come with a interactive tool e.g sql workbench/profiler etc, but MS has since supplied some limited tools. Myles.
