I have the slight feeling that this is still related to that problem, when ray 
crashed if you assigned a prime number of cores to MPI.
e.g. I can only run ray with a kmer-value of 125, if I use at least 9 cores.
It runs on 6 cores if I take e.g. 49.
No clue what the problem is.
tl;dr: Try assigning more or less cores, maybe that changes something.
