I have looked at Knut's patch and I think those changes are good and should be
committed.
Knut's observation that small negative bit indexes will not trigger an
ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException is absolutely correct, so I think I'll submit my
patch for this.
I just uploaded a patch (unusedmethods.v1) which removes unused methods.
derbyall and suites.All pass.
