Bernt, I tend to disagree with 'aa'='å' is false statement based on my
understanding of SQL spec Section 8.2 <comparison predicate> General Rules 3c)
and 3d).
3c) The result of the comparison of X and Y is given by the collation CS.
3d) Depending on the collation, two strings may compare as equal even if they
are of different lengths or contain different sequences of characters.
Based on these 2 rules, if the collation CS for Norwegian compares 'aa' and 'å'
as true, then the result of 'aa'='å' will be true. In other words, if the
collation elements for 'aa' matches 'å', then it means that collation CS
compares them equal.
I can see how a person with name "Håkon" may not write his name "Haakon" or
vice versa but I think if my interpretation of SQL spec is right, then SQL is
going to treat "Håkon"="Haakon" depending on the collation CS. Do let me know
if my understanding of SQL spec in this area is incorrect.
