John H. Embretsen commented on DERBY-1387:
------------------------------------------
The permissions allow out-of-the box monitoring and management of Derby when
the Network Server installs its own security manager by default and
derby.system.jmx=true. Users can enjoy the JMX functionality without having to
resort to the often cumbersome task of customizing a policy file to replace the
default. In a shorter perspective, the patch allows Derby developers and
testers to try out the JMX functionality in a convenient way. The permissions
may have to be tweaked as the JMX functionality changes, though.
I think the separate subpackages idea, d), is a good option.
