Rick Hillegas commented on DERBY-5522:
--------------------------------------

Hi Kim,

I am reworking the program to start and stop the server programmatically. This
will simplify running the example. I am puzzling through how to get user
credentials to the server. Stand by while I figure this out...

As far as bringing down the engine vs. bringing down the database: you want to
bring down the whole engine gracefully before your program exits. But to do
this, you need to present valid credentials. The credentials can only be
validated in the credentials DB, so there is no point in bringing that database
down before you request engine shutdown.

Hope this makes sense,
-Rick

> We should document NATIVE authentication after we have implemented the
> changes described on DERBY-866. The documentation changes are described by
> the functional spec UserManagement.html attached to that issue.
