Hey, I just had an idea for a new undo/redo-function. I only created an account for this mailing list to post my idea, I hope it gets recognized:
What about an slider instead of an undo- and redo-button? It should function like this: at the beginning, the slider is at its rightest position and cannot be moved. When editing the document, the subdivision of the slider track will be subdivided in one more part. For example, if you have typed a word, inserted an image and typed another word, the slider could be moved backwards three times. Moving the slider thump to the right side would be fire the redo function. It would lead to one additional thing: every time the user uses the undo function and then continues writing, the slider would jump to the right side, the user would recognize and learn, that the undone changes are lost, if he continues writing after reverting them. http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/file/n3993164/Auswahl_001.png I think there three outstanding advantages: 1. A better user experience: The user no sees how many undo operations he can do. 2. Easy to implement: I think replacing the two buttons with a slider and registering a listener is not that difficul, since you use this listener to activate/deactivate the buttons with the same one. 3. An unique selling point: nobody else has got something like this. Of course, there is one disadvantage: 1. It uses more space. In summary, I think we should give it a try. I hope to hear from you, since this is my first try to get involved into development of a bigger project. I'm an information technology student from Constance/Germany, and I'm interested in improving the UX of LibreOffice. Hope my first try will be noticed ;-) Patrick -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Idea-for-an-new-Undo-Redo-Function-tp3993164.html Sent from the Design mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to [email protected] Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/design/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
