Here are 4 possibilities for Tentative (in clock-wise order, starting
with the Wed, 3:30PM event)
One question first: will incoming events (meeting requests received as
emails) be displayed as Tentative events? I'm assuming they do and this
is guiding my choice of design: incoming meeting requests need to be
easily viewed because I have to answer them asap. If incoming events are
not marked Tentative, well, we need a way to visualize those.
1. Use the old FYI: white strip, less rhythmic repetition than the
stripes.
2. Use a subtler version of the dots. More integrated into the
lozenge, but less like teeth.
Those 2 are somewhat similar. I prefer solution 2 since it grabs the
attention better (personal opinion).
3. Lighten the lozenge itself. (This is problematic because Tentative
lozenges start to look like the lozenges of activated, but not
selected calendars.
Indeed...
4. Lighten the text and white strip. (But I wonder if this makes for
too many variables.)
+ FONT COLOR variables: White versus De-Saturated Lozenge Color versus
Saturated Lozenge Color
+ Gradient versus No Gradient
+ Solid with White outline versus Hollow with Colored outline
This solution may take us over the tipping point into the realm of a
visual syntax that is too complicated to decipher.
Contrast are easily missed by most people. Also, even if you've good
vision, bad viewing conditions (especially on a laptop) make those hard
to see sometimes.
