Just closing out some open issues floating on the design list. Summarizing what ppl have said:

Matthew: Disabling it makes more sense then to remove whole sections. Disabling form elements/buttons are standard expectation of the user.

Mimi: Disabling forms/buttons are useful if there are location-memory issues to consider. Otherwise the appear/disappearing of form/buttons are the best option to simplify the UI. There are not location/memory issue with the time zone picker.

Matthew: Making the form elements disappear is the proposed solution to a problem which the user is not able to distinguish between an element which is currently disabled on the web UI. We need to fix the problem of making sure the user is able to distinguish between form elements which are disabled then to come up with alternate solutions.

Sheila: Doesn't have an opinion if we should disable vs. disappear the time zone form element. Currently is looks like it's enabled, but doesn't work. The date field looks like she can click to edit the field.

So it looks the time zone filed is currently disabled (the correct behavior), but it looks enabled to the user. Here is an addendum to the original proposal:

Proposal A
If there is a better way to visually display that it's disabled, then we should go ahead and do that if that's the easiest solution. For example, removing the outline for the drop down list in time zone. Making sure text fields next to time zone does not have a 1px outline which the users think they're able to click to edit.

Proposal B
Having the time zone field disappear when it's an all day event. This is under the assumption that proposal B is much easier to implement.

Basically go with the proposal which is the easiest to implement.

PS-I'm re-prioritizing this bug to a P3, since information is there, this issue is not a blocker for 0.7 release.

*The issue*

So, the timezone field for all day events is disabled, which makes sense. We don't have the field at all in Chandler. However, it looks exactly like the other fields visually which is confusing. I click on it and it does nothing.

*Proposal:*
In 0.7, the form elements in the detail view will appear/disappear dynamically according to what the item is, ie. address fields will appear/disappear in the detail view by using the communication stamp.

In this particular case, I side with Sheila's recommendation to eliminate the time zone drop down list when the 'All day' check box is checked. (Opposed to displaying something which looks enabled, when it's really not.)

This is also the assumption that users of the web UI will be able to select their own time zones from a drop down list: https:// bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6196

Thoughts? -Priscilla
