This is in no way intentional. It's sometimes, if not always, a symptom of the "mail items are changed when they shouldn't be" class of bugs. For a while we were randomizing headers when sharing mail messages, including modifications to recurring events. That by itself would cause what Philippe was seeing, thankfully that specific bug is fixed. I think we've still seen other bugs in this class, though.
