Not to muddy the waters, but just a couple of quick items:

1. The topic of a context menu (like in the Desktop) for the Collection Selector (and the lozenges) was a very hot topic during the FLOSS Usability Sprint. It's less discoverable than a big button, but might work well for the Remove/Rename options, and would be pretty trivial to implement.

2. With the fixed height of the Selector, and lack of any bounding box, I don't know if it's entirely clear what would be created or removed. The buttons are pretty far away from the collection names, and there's nothing to link them visually. This would be a lot less of a problem once we have a prominent vertical resizer bar under the selector (presumably below the button(s)).

Just my two pesos. :)

I guess it depends how fast we want this feature. From IRC today it seems like collection creation is a pretty hot item for quite a few folks. I'm not proposing we skip deletion for long, but my quote of an hour was for adding only ;-)

-0 on buttons, I think they look too heavy. If other folks like that

collection deletion and implement this as a text link.

buttons look fine to me. why skip deletion?
