Moving this discussion over to the Design List.

Hi Benjamin,

Trying to summarize the proposal here. Also tweaked the verbiage of the menu items a bit.

1. Under the View menu, we have...

View>>
.
.
.
.
-----
Visible Hours>>
-----
Saved Views>>
+ Save View
+ Delete View
+ Switch Views>>
++ <VIEW NAME> CTRL/CMD+F1
++ <VIEW NAME> CTRL/CMD+F2
++ <VIEW NAME> CTRL/CMD+F3

===

2. Selecting "Save View" pops up the following dialog:

===
Save View
-----

View Name: [                                      ]

                                        [Cancel] [Save]
===

3. Saving a View would save the following view attributes:
+ Application area
+ Selected/Overlaid collections
+ Window size
+ Pane sizes
+ Column widths
+ Column sort
+ Open/Closed Triage Sections
+ Month versus Day versus Week View

4. Selecting "Delete View' pops up the following dialog:

===
Delete View
-----

Are you sure you want to delete <VIEW NAME>?

                                        [Cancel] [Delete]
===

Hi All,

Regarding assigning function keys, I suggest the following changes to
the view menu:

View -->
Saved Views Manager-->
Save View
Delete Saved View
Switch Views-->
[user defined name 1]: CTRL+F1
[user defined name 2]: CTRL+F2
[user defined name 3]: CTRL+F3
et cetera

SAVE VIEW would 1. Prompt the user to enter a name; 2. Save the
appropriate settings together with the name, and 3. Add an item to the
"Switch Views" submenu that included the name followed by a colon and
the keystroke combination.

SWITCH VIEWS would provide a visual reminder of all currently assigned
keystrokes, and allow an alternate means to select views.

We've talked in the past about implementing a 'Bookmarks Bar' across

the top of (under the main toolbar). It would allow you to set up
custom views and then save them to the top for quick, one-click
access.

This would then relegate the sidebar to be more of a filtering,
exploratory navigation device which could stay closed most of the
time, providing more screen real estate for the Triage Table /
Calendar and Item Details.

What you're suggesting however, would be easier to implement as it
doesn't require additional interface work.

We could add a menu item under View>>Save View and automatically
assign a keyboard shortcut for each view.

What would get saved?
+ Overlaid collections
+ Application area

Not sure about these...
+ Column widths?
+ Column sort?
+ Open/Closed Triage Sections?
+ Day versus Week view?

Hi Folks,

As my number of collections has grown, I've realized that I wish
there
were a shortcut to select particular combinations of overlays in
the
calendar. For example, perhaps I could use CTRL+F1 to pull up all

of my
personal overlays, CTRL+F2 to bring up all my research projects,
CTRL+F3
to bring up all my classes, CTRL+F4 to bring up my medieval
recreation
events, and so forth.

Thoughts?
