Actually, this isn't true - OmniFocus (and Life Balance, for that matter) allow you to indicate whether a project's tasks are serial or parallel. I'm not positive how it's done in OmniFocus (although it is certainly listed on their feature map), but in Life Balance it's just a checkbox, and the default is parallel. You have to check the box to force the tasks to be serialized.

Of course, even if tasks are available to be done in parallel, they may still occur in different contexts, have different lead times/due dates, etc. So, even if they're parallel, they won't necessarily all end up in Life Balance's version of "Now" at the same time. (Some of the tasks might even be recurring, and thus come and go repeatedly over the life of the project.)
