thanks my ubuntu did all that
it is just that this problem just started
I will check mint out for sure though as I  run windows before and got tired of
the expense of running the os. in five years I have not had one crash, a few
freeze ups. and my win XP had to be reloaded or rebuilt numerous times and
windows  is gone in my book. My wife wants windows on her computer with
wireless.
I have no problems viewing tube services as you tube.
I can't share on a Belkin network so thats a plus for me in mint.
The "you must be root" error will be improved in mint matbe. As it is hard to
configure my system in ubuntu. without a fuss!

Charles,
I have since moved from Ubuntu to Mint because of a few lingering issues that I
got tired of trying to fix. If you want an OS that works 99% out of the box I
would try Mint. I know this isn't a fix as much as it is a work around but
Mint is built on Ubuntu and they have pretty much set up everything you need for
a fully functional OS. In most cases the wireless drivers work right off the
bat and you don't have to try to load windows wireless drivers. If you do
have to load windows drivers they have a tool setup already for you so you just
get the .ini file for your wireless card and you are off to the races. One of
the coolest things is that you can play DVDs without having to load additional
plugins or codecs and java is already loaded. You can go straight to Youtube
without having to load a single thing.

Hope this helps.
