I am now seeing something very similar, possibly related. I have evolution set up with a pop mailbox, and it currently (at a result of catching up/backing up to local) has a very large inbox - 64Mb. It hung and became unresponsive at 100% a few days ago, and now does so every time I start it. I even left it for a few hours, but it was still in the same state, CPU Maxed out, evolution unresponsive. I have a backtrace and debug, which I will attach in a comment below. This is in Feisty, using Evolution 2.10.1-0ubuntu2. Killing evolution-alarm-notify does not alleviate the problem. I will also attach the CLI output to my comment below. I will try the tip with using thunderbird to get to this mail for now, but would really like to see this sorted, or if a key file in evolution can be changed to fix it.
