Yes, we've pretty much decided that we'd like to do that this time around for the 'quick launch' area at the top of the Launch menu. Since it looks like we won't be having the generic "web browser", "mail" menu items that we used to have for those apps, though, it won't affect any other part of the Launch menu. Specifically, my preferred solution at the moment is to modify the "Preferred Applications" dialog slightly to allow the user to add some or all of their preferred application choices to the quick launch area of the Launch menu, (perhaps optionally) replacing any existing quick launch apps of the same type... I'm hoping to add a proposed design for that to the UI spec by the end of the week.
