JDS3 is based on old gnome version, which is gnome2.6. While Vermillion is based on latest gnome, now is gnome2.18. There are lots of improvement.
I saw your screenshots, they are definitely bugs, please feel free and file bugs. Anyone know whether it is easy for external users to file bugs for SXCE? I have no such experience. Halton.
