Very much the later, SXCE, JDS 3 on S10, was a finalized product, where as
GNOME on SX (vermillion), does have quality checks and some localization
it is not a finalized product.

In short Yes. They are both installed to the same prefix by default "/usr"

Version of gnome in current SX delivery is 2.16, as halton stated 
vermillion devel
is 2.18, and will be a future SX delivery.
