Yeah, there's a lot of hard coded stuff in the menus - anything under
Applications can be changed, everything else is set. It was possible to
edit the Quick Start stuff in JDS, although not particularly obvious.
Even the new menu editor doesn't allow you to easily add new menu
entries.

For Solaris users we've had consistent menu changes for *every* new
version of GNOME - currently that's only 2.0 and 2.6. Looks like we'll
do the same this time around. I'd be keen to get it right this time
around, and I'm not overly confident of that :/
