same here had all these probs, had thought it was all being caused by the place windows applet in compiz (which worked fine in 10.10) interesting about the clock if that has to do with anything.

Steps to reproduce: At login prompt change to gnome classic. Open a browser, go to youtube.com and select a video. Click the 'Full Screen' button to maximize. Gnome panel should disappear, instead it's still displayed. Attached screenshot. Edit: It behaves like this even when playing videos locally with a media player such as vlc. The gnome panel initially disappears but reappears after a couple of seconds. As a workaround before playing any videos on full screen, set the gnome panel to hidden. It will still show a 1px white border though.
