I appreciate that there is insufficient information to attempt to fix the bug.  
I tried your suggestions, without any success. As I said in my earlier bug 
report, "The shortcuts do not respond when trying to edit a shortcut, nor is 
there any response when pressing Backspace to clear." This includes all the 
keyboard shortcut options, they are all locked.
So as you can see from my earlier bug report I tried using Backspace, but this 
did not reset the keys.

Bug description:
  System Settings->Shortcuts. The shortcuts do not respond when trying to edit 
a shortcut, nor is there any response when pressing Backspace to clear.
  Problem is present in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Ubuntu 11.10 
(Oneiric Ocelot).
