NM website claims: "NetworkManager supports most network security
methods and protocols, including WEP, WPA/WPA2, WPA-Enterprise and
WPA2-Enterprise, wired 802.1x, and VPNs"

If there are shortcomings in NM or nm-applet, please file bugs upstream.

  this feature is definitely missing in nm-applet!

  
  In Win XP you're simply asked to enter a password and username, if you choose 
network is 802.1x encrypted with a MD5 Challenge.
