Hello Björn, Yes, this does happen when opening an empty .odt file. It also hangs when a newly created and empty file save is attempted. Please see attachment.

When opening a local copy of that file, the document is rendered instantly. As a reference, opening a networked pdf with acrobat is instantaneous. Our company had recently switched from NIS to LDAP name services. I also upgrade to 12.04 about the same time. Before these changes, LO behaved nicely and opened networked file without any slowdown. 1) $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release: 12.04 2) $ apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer libreoffice-writer: Installed: 1:3.5.4-0ubuntu1.1 Candidate: 1:3.5.4-0ubuntu1.1 Version table: *** 1:3.5.4-0ubuntu1.1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-security/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages 3) Opening a networked document with writer should be just as fast as a local file. 4) Opening a networked document appears to hang writer for ~50sec before it is finally rendered.
